The vocabulary of a two year old
Aidan’s vocabulary is noticeably growing daily. In addition to “Canada” (see below) some of his favourite words now are “bus” and “truck” and “train” and “car”. I have no idea what’s with the transportation theme, but I’m sure it’s just a product of being a little boy in an urban setting. We cannot walk down the street anymore without him shouting (and pointing) “BUS!” or “TRUCK!” at each bus or truck that passes by. Every day and every night, he insists on reading a number of the train- or truck-themed books that we’ve gradually accumulated. He can even say “Ambulance”, although “Fire Truck” seems beyond him right now.
And, oh — those outings down the city streets? When he’s out of the stroller walking along with you, he might come to a complete stop, and look at you expectantly. Apparently (as taught to me by Gwen), you’re supposed to say “On your mark! Get set! Go!” to which he will scream “GOOOOOOOOOOOOO!” at the top of his lungs and then race off at full speed, only to come to a stop 5 feet later and look at you expectantly again. We have no idea where he picked this up, but I can tell you that it’s behaviour that’s not limited to the street. In fact, he’s quite happy doing it in stores and malls too. Much energy this one has.
